How to create a safe exercise space during remote learning

  • If you have injury or illness then don’t consider these activities or avoid certain activities.

  • If you use an asthma puffer then have it ready at hand.

  • Check with parents that participating in an activity is ok.

  • Type of flooring, eg, floorboards or carpet or on the grass. Check with parents to find the safest place to exercise for your selected activity.

  • Shoes worn in activity must be appropriate fitness footwear for the activity e.g. joggers with shoe laces tied. Some activities may require no shoes - eg Yoga.

  • Warm up and stretch before you begin your workout

  • Ensure you have a safe space clear of obstructions or trip hazards before you start.

  • Work within your own comfort zone - don’t push yourself too hard.

  • Make sure you stay hydrated during and after your workout.

  • If at any stage within a movement you feel a sharp pain, do not continue with the activity.

  • Warm- down and stretch to bring your heart rate down, lower body temperatures and help your muscles recover and relax.
